the first bussiness activity

this was the first outdoor activity at sims.. it was a task to explore the C.E.O.ness in oursleves. and the best idea was to not give us any single resource. we were asked to earn a 100 bucks. i always believed freedom is the best power one can have and it would work for anythin one needs. and very obviosly this kind of task seemed very exciting. we approached all branded/famous outlets for work.. not a single shop had a manager who could take the risk to accept us.. or may b we actually seemed too risky to him. and all this while my mind was only stuck at the fact that we had to learn a 100 bucks minimum. very conventionally i planned that we shud go to some fmcg shop where there are more customers in no. n atleast we're able to make those 100 bucks quickly. by now, i'd become like a door-to-door (shop-to-shop) salesman. . and unfortunately i was only targetting on those 100 bucks. so finally we end up at a cosmetics shop which was a whole sale cum retail shop. for the first 1 n a half hours i was wonderin how we could attract customers to the shop. i discovered that there was a shop keepers own brand available there which he was selling with 50% discount. i was focussed on the sale of those particular products. but, when i noticed the way this shop keeper (i wanna call him 'seth ji'). . when seth had a cutomer, i observed that he gave a rediculous discount at each n every product. i took some time to understand that the seth ji has set up this particular shop at a place which is surrounded by beauty parlours.. n all these parlours were his rugular customers. seth ji had n amazing boding with each one of the ladies from these parlours. and he supplies everything to these parlours in bulk, at a rate much lesser than the m.r.p. of course . then, bout the general individual customer. . seth ji says tat... we shud say things that will please the customer.. or somethin that he really wants to hear.. even if it has least of the logics... i cudnt sell a sunscreen to a girl.. while i made sure that she walked out with a herbal range of product that was seth ji's own. there were many such incidences....
one thing that was a lesson was.. its very important, while dealing with a customer, to sound like a friend, a person who only wants his best.. which needs us to focus very carefully on his behaviour and tendency. now how do we do that when all that we really care bout is our sale. thats called tactics.. marketing.. or selling skills. in fact, persuasive power. another thing that i never gave a thought of, was product knowledge. m highly impressed with the kind of product knowledge seth ji had. unbeatable!! over all, the day was tough... not as well planned as it shud have been. but anyways, CEO's don give excuses.. they believe in the coming opportunities. :)
.. and by the way.. all that we could earn, was an invitaion to lunch with them. . when we asked for more, seth ji almost left the shop and dint enter our visibilty range ever. .
